Hi, I’m Wei from Malaysia! I am currently in my first year studying BSc Computer Science after successfully completing my University of Leeds International Foundation Year (IFY) program. Prior to this, I completed SPM at Seri Omega Private School in Johor, Malaysia.

University of Leeds is consistently ranked among the top 75 universities according to QS World Universities Ranking. Moreover, it is also part of the Russell Group universities as well as a member of the Red Brick Universities, proving its position as a top-tier university in the UK.

I first discovered the University of Leeds when I was researching UK universities that offers foundation courses. I chose to pursue my studies here due to its prestigious reputation. University of Leeds is consistently ranked among the top 75 universities according to QS World Universities Ranking. Moreover, it is also part of the Russell Group universities as well as a member of the Red Brick Universities, proving its position as a top-tier university in the UK. Moreover, the BSc Computer Science degree is accredited by the British Computing Society (BCS).

My experience at University of Leeds has been exceptional and interesting. My favourite thing about the university is its outstanding facilities and the support provided. There are four libraries on campus, in which Laidlaw Library is my favourite library. We are allowed to book rooms for group study and discussions. The university constantly organises a range of activities to support students’ academic and well-being, from Welcome Week to Careers Fair. Furthermore, the Leeds University Union (LUU) has more than 300 clubs and societies for us to join. I’ve had the opportunity connect with fellow Malaysians through events organised by LUMSOC and MASSOC!

One aspect that I particularly like about my course is the interactive lab classes which is truly beneficial for beginners in coding. The lecturers would provide live demonstration supported with hands-on exercise that enhance our learning experience. The other aspect that I truly appreciate is the option to enrol in 20 credits’ worth of discovery modules. This flexibility allows me to explore the modules that suit my interests. For example, I am now taking Beginner’s Japanese module alongside with other computing modules.

During my free time, I love to explore the vibrant city of Leeds. I like trying out various restaurant in Leeds. Since Leeds is a student-friendly city with international students from more than 100 different countries, there are a wide range of restaurants offering different types of cuisine. Thai a Roy Dee located in the city centre is one of my favourite restaurants. Given its strategic location, it is also easy for us to travel to other cities during weekend. One of the must-visit cities around Leeds is definitely York!

I am currently staying in a privately rented house through Rentinc and I like the fact that it is located near the university. It is just ten minutes’ walk from the Michael Sadler building where I usually have my classes.
