Hi! My name is Viviana, and I’m currently a first-year LLB Law student here at the University of Leeds. I’m originally from Beijing, China, but I completed my entire high school education in Florida, USA. After graduation, I returned to China and earned a law diploma, and now I’m here, excited to continue my law studies and explore them in greater depth!

From ensuring student safety with things like the night bus service to providing free airport pick-up for new students, it’s clear the university goes the extra mile.

The University of Leeds has always been my dream school, because it’s not only has a strong academic reputation, it’s about looking after students as well. My cousin, who studied here before, always spoke highly of how much the university cares about students. From ensuring student safety with things like the night bus service to providing free airport pick-up for new students, it’s clear the university goes the extra mile. They make sure everything runs smoothly from the start, and the attention they pay to students' health, safety, and even things like dietary preferences really makes you feel supported and cared for here. It’s the kind of environment where you know you’re in good hands.

...the best thing about my course is how interactive and engaging the classes are.

Moreover, I also love the academic atmosphere here, the best thing about my course is how interactive and engaging the classes are. The professors encourage discussions and debates, which really helps me think critically about legal issues. The course content is challenging but interesting, and I feel like I’m constantly learning something new which is awesome. One of the best opportunities I’ve had at Leeds is the Discovery Modules. They let me explore subjects outside of my law course, and since I’m also interested in media, I’m looking forward to trying out some modules related to that. It’s a great way to broaden my knowledge and try something new. On top of that, I’m really grateful to have received a scholarship which has been a big motivation for me to keep pushing myself and doing my best in my studies.

Moreover, what I love most about Leeds is how many societies there are—about 300 in total! No matter if you’re into music, arts, sports, or academics, you’ll definitely find something you like. These societies are different from professional courses, they’re a great way to explore new interests and just relax outside of studying. It’s amazing to have so many options to unwind and try something new! So with the care of the school, Leeds has quickly become a place I’m proud to call my second home. I’ve loved exploring the city—there’s always a new Boba-tea shop to check out, a market offering specialties from various countries to wander through, or a hidden corner of campus to discover. I also like visiting parks or taking walks around the campus to relax.

Leeds has this perfect mix of city life and nature.

Outside of my studies, I try to stay active, and I sometimes go to the gym or participate in university events and parties by LUU! I love how Leeds has this perfect mix of city life and nature, so whether I’m in the heart of town or out enjoying the Yorkshire countryside, it feels like there’s always a new adventure around every corner. My favourite place in the city is Trinity Leeds, because it has my favourite restaurant, Tortilla, along with great shopping and food options. I also love heading to Roundhay Park when I need a bit of peace and quiet. It’s such a nice spot to relax by the lake, and I always enjoy seeing the swans swimming around. The park has some beautiful gardens too, and a tropical world, so it’s definitely one of my go-to places to escape for a while. Sometimes, people walk their dogs there, and as a pet lover, I really enjoy chilling at this spot!

Besides that, I live in a privately rented student accommodation, It's really close to campus and the city centre, so everything is super convenient. The most I love about this accommodation is that we all have a washing machine for each room, we don’t need to pay to wash our clothing! It’s also a great spot for making new friends, which has made my first year here even better. Overall, I’m absolutely thrilled to dive deeper into both my studies and life here in Leeds!
