Namaste and Hi!

I’m Sadikshya Karki from Kathmandu, Nepal, and I’m currently pursuing an MSc in Management of Information Systems and Digital Innovation (MISDI) at the University of Leeds. I’m honored to be a Chevening Scholar, a prestigious scholarship funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office.

My academic journey began with a Bachelor’s in Computer Science from Kathmandu University. Professionally, I have nearly seven years of experience in Business Development and Sales, working across diverse sectors such as nonprofits, EdTech, and IT consultancy. When choosing my master’s program, I wanted something that would bridge my technical foundation with my business experience and MISDI was the perfect fit. I discovered the University of Leeds through the Chevening Course Finder, and it immediately stood out for its variety of tailored programs. Plus, Leeds is known as a vibrant student city, which assured me of a welcoming and supportive environment and I wasn’t wrong!

Why do I Love the University of Leeds?
What truly sets Leeds apart is its student-first approach. The university offers extensive resources to ensure students feel supported, heard, and comfortable, from academic guidance and engaging societies to physical and mental health services. Living away from home can be challenging but knowing that these resources are available makes the experience reassuring and enjoyable. The Leeds University Union is also one of the highlights of the university, run by students for student they are home to 300+ societies, incredible choices of things you can try and explore to get to know yourself and your interests better. Additionally, the Night Bus service is that the university offers to ensure the safety of the student staying for lectures and library till late, this really shows how university prioritizes safety of the students and I really appreciate that.

Within the Leeds University Business School (LUBS), we have a dedicated Career Centre called LUBS Career and Opportunity Hub that helps with CV reviews, job searches, and career planning. There are also incredible opportunities like Study tours, Global industry programs which allows you to get hands on experience working with companies, solving their business problems, visiting sites. Along with that we also have SPARK, Enterprise and starting a business, they help you in starting your own business, from ideation to even funding the idea. They provide mentorship and various tools to bring your ideas to reality. I also appreciate how professors encourage open dialogue asking questions, challenging ideas, and engaging critically which was a refreshing change for me and has been immensely helpful.

Life Beyond Academics
Outside of my studies, I love traveling, exploring new places, visiting cafés, and trying different cuisines. One of my favorite trips so far has been to York, just a 30-minute train ride from Leeds, a charming city full of history and vibrant culture. For fitness enthusiasts, the university gym, The Edge, offers fantastic sessions that keep you motivated and active.

I also enjoy spending time in the city center, which is vibrant, colorful, and full of things to do. I often go there for shopping and to visit markets like Kirkgate Market and the Corn Exchange. One of my favorite cafés is Tiled Café at Leeds Art Gallery, a perfect blend of aesthetic ambiance and great coffee.

Leeds has plenty of parks, making it ideal for anyone who loves greenery. Roundhay Park is one of the largest and most beautiful parks I’ve visited. You can walk around the lake, relax by the dock feeding ducks, or enjoy a coffee at the park café, it’s the perfect way to spend a day. Leeds truly offers a unique blend of nature, history, and modern charm.

I currently live in Sentinel Towers, a university accommodation close to the Business School. I chose it for its convenient location, affordable en-suite options, and the chance to live in an all-girls flat with amazing flat mates from different countries. We often share dishes from our cultures, which makes for a wonderful exchange of traditions and flavors.

I’m still discovering everything Leeds has to offer, and I’m excited to learn, grow, and take these experiences back to Nepal. I’m passionate about quality education, and studying here has given me a new perspective on teaching and learning that I hope to share in my home country. I’m grateful to be part of a university that prioritizes student growth, critical thinking, and innovation.
