Hello! I’m Pragya Sharma, a master’s student in International Marketing Management at the University of Leeds. Originally from Delhi, India, I completed my Bachelor’s in Journalism and Mass Communication there. My passion for communication led me to pursue a PG Diploma in Public Relations and Mass Communications at the prestigious Xavier Institute of Communications in Mumbai, where I honed my skills in media, storytelling, and strategic communication.
After several years of professional experience in India, I felt it was time to take my knowledge to the next level, which ultimately brought me to Leeds.
Before joining Leeds, I spent three years working in social media marketing with a leading communications agency in India, which allowed me to build and execute impactful campaigns and connect brands with their audiences in authentic, meaningful ways. While I loved my work, I realized that a master’s degree would give me the depth and global perspective needed to expand my career opportunities and gain expertise in an international setting. Leeds was the perfect choice, given its globally recognized curriculum and the immersive, well-rounded student experience it offers.
I felt confident that Leeds would not only provide the academic rigor I was seeking but also support my professional and personal growth with an environment that encourages exploration and creativity.
One of the standout aspects of the University of Leeds is the incredible range of opportunities available for students to gain real-world experience and grow beyond the classroom. The university’s connection to industry allows students to work on real projects that simulate actual industry work and apply your studies to practical challenges. Additionally, Leeds provides ample support for career advancement, with employment fairs, job application workshops, and internships available across fields, which are invaluable resources for international students looking to establish themselves in the UK or beyond. Study tours and guest lectures from industry professionals add a global dimension to the learning experience, bringing us closer to industry trends and expectations.
For accommodation, I chose to stay in a university-managed student residence, which has been one of the best decisions I made. Living on campus has made my daily routine so much easier, with most of my classes within a 10-minute walk and essential amenities close by. I love the community atmosphere here, as the accommodation management team is incredibly responsive and organizes regular social gatherings, creating a comfortable and connected living environment. The proximity to stores, pharmacies, and restaurants means I have everything I need right at my doorstep, making it easy to settle into life in Leeds. Living with fellow students has also been a fantastic way to make friends from all over the world, adding a communal aspect to my experience here.
Outside of my studies, I am an avid traveller and love exploring new places, both within Leeds and beyond. Every chance I get, I’m either planning a trip to a nearby town or uncovering hidden gems in the city itself. I also enjoy cooking and trying out new recipes, which gives me a sense of creativity and relaxation after a busy week. The weekends are often spent with friends, where we wind down, share meals, and connect after a week of studies.
Leeds itself is one of the most vibrant, inclusive cities I’ve encountered, and I couldn’t be happier to call it my second home. It’s incredibly diverse, with people from all backgrounds coming together to create a welcoming and engaging atmosphere. Whether you’re looking to explore music, food, sports, or arts, Leeds has something for everyone, making it easy to feel at home even if you’re from across the world. I personally love the area around Hyde Park and the Headrow—perfect for weekend strolls, shopping, and simply taking in the city’s energy.
