Hi! I’m Nat from the UK and I am currently a 4th year BSc Economics student. Last year, I completed a placement year at the University of Leeds International Office, which has definitely been a highlight of my university experience.

Originally, I am from Derbyshire in the East Midlands of England. Before coming to Leeds, I went to a Sixth-form college in Nottingham; where I took A-levels in History, Politics and Economics. Economics was easily my favourite subject, so when it came to deciding what to study at university, it was a no-brainer! Deciding to come to Leeds for university was another easy decision. I wanted to be in a busy city, with a good student life; but at the same time, I was determined to attend a highly ranked Russell Group university.

My favourite part about the University of Leeds has to be the campus. It has a great mixture of classical and modern buildings, with plenty of things to do and a vibrant atmosphere. There are loads of spots to study, eat, shop and get a coffee, so it is a great environment for any student. As well as this, there are always events and activities taking place. These range from fairs to plant sales, with the option of a night out available every week too.

Studying Economics has sometimes been difficult, but overall thoroughly enjoyable. I have developed a wide and deep understanding of a range of different economic concepts, whilst building on my presentation and research skills. Also, I have had the opportunity to study modules from different courses, through the “discovery module” scheme the university offers. After finishing my second year, I took the opportunity to do a year in industry, working for the university’s International Office. This was an amazing experience which gave me chance to develop my professional skills and work with a brilliant team of people.

Outside of university, I love to go to the gym and play football. My friends and I started our own football team in the university’s social league. We have played together for the last 3 years, whilst also playing in different 5-a-side leagues around Leeds too. I also enjoy going to live music events, for which there are plenty of cool venues around Leeds to visit.

Currently, I live in a shared student house with a few of my friends, which I have done for the last two years. In my first year, I lived In Central Village which was great as I was so close to both the city and campus.
