Mengjin Zhang

Hello! I’m Mengjin, a second-year PhD student in the School of Education at the University of Leeds, where I focus on adolescent identity and drama education. I arrived in Leeds in 2023 from China, where I completed my BA and MA in Theatre Directing and Theatre Education at the Central Academy of Drama. From my very first day here, I was deeply touched by the warm support and thoughtful services provided to international students at Leeds. This welcoming experience inspired me to join the team as an International Welcome Assistant and Link to Leeds Student Ambassador, where I now have the opportunity to offer that same kindness and guidance to others. I truly enjoy working alongside colleagues from all over the world, and I find immense value in helping new students feel at home. I’m excited to continue extending this warmth and support to everyone joining our vibrant community at Leeds!

Choosing Leeds has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, and I’ve never looked back!

Academically, the University of Leeds stands out for its excellence and influence. For example, Childhood Studies here is ranked first in the UK, allowing me access to cutting-edge resources in children’s education. Beyond academics, the city of Leeds itself is incredibly charming, with a unique blend of British history and modern, international flair. It’s a convenient place to live, with excellent public transport and everything you might need as a student close at hand.

Beyond my studies, Leeds offers an incredible variety of activities to make the most of student life. Stepping out of the office, I can head to the theatre for a musical, visit Kirkgate Market for fresh and affordable produce, or explore the diverse international cuisine right in the city centre. Leeds also has fantastic spots for weekend getaways and plenty of indoor and outdoor activities for those looking to try something new. There’s always something exciting to do here, making Leeds the perfect place for a vibrant and well-rounded student experience!
