Hi, my name is Mateo, and I am from Beijing, China. I am currently a postgraduate student of MA TESOL studies at the University of Leeds.
The campus is beautiful, with convenient facilities and plenty of green spaces to relax in between lectures.
One of the main reasons I chose the University of Leeds was the opportunity it offered to combine academic excellence with a dynamic student life. The campus is beautiful, with convenient facilities and plenty of green spaces to relax in between lectures. And Leeds is a city that offers a bit of everything— not only shops, culture, and food, but also a relaxed vibe that makes it easy to unwind after a busy day. I felt that this balance between academic and social life would suit me well.
The career services at Leeds are also fantastic. It’s been amazing to see how seriously the university takes preparing students for life after graduation, with numerous opportunities to gain practical experience, network with professionals, and develop key skills.
The staff and faculty are incredibly supportive, always available to offer guidance, and passionate about their subjects. My course, MA TESOL Studies, has been both challenging and rewarding, with plenty of opportunities for hands-on learning. The program emphasizes group work and encourages students to engage in discussions, which has really helped me develop my critical thinking and communication skills. In addition to the academic side of things, I’ve found that Leeds offers countless opportunities outside the classroom. The career services at Leeds are also fantastic. Outside of my studies, I like to keep busy by exploring the city. Leeds is an incredible place to live—there’s always something happening, whether it’s a festival, a concert, or a pop-up food market. What makes Leeds stand out as a city is its unique blend of history, culture, and modernity. It’s a city that feels vibrant and full of energy, yet it also has quieter spots like Hyde Park or the Leeds Art Gallery, where you can escape the hustle and bustle. The fact that Leeds is also a student city means that there’s always something going on—whether it’s sports events, music festivals, or student nights.
Looking ahead, I’m excited about the opportunities that will continue to unfold as I progress through my studies. Whether it’s through further academic challenges, more chances to gain professional experience, or exploring new places around the city, I’m confident that my time at the University of Leeds will set me up for success in the future.
