Habari, my name is Immaculate W. Kyamanywa from Tanzania in East Africa.  You can also call me Immy. My country, Tanzania,  is known as the land of Hospitality because of its richness in tourism attractions like Serengeti and Kilimanjaro Mountain. I am pursuing my MA in Corporate Communications, Marketing & Public Relations (CCMPR).

I did my undergrad Degree in Political Science and Public Administration at the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. I later did MA in International Studies (Development Cooperation) in South Korea. I worked as a Human Resources personnel for seven years and decided to switch my career into Communications. Prior to coming to the University of Leeds I worked with an NGO called Amref Health Africa in Tanzania as a Partnerships & PR Content Officer for two years. However, I always felt that I need to be in-depth with my knowledge and skills in Communications and PR world.

This course has been thought-provoking and enriching in terms of the content it offers and the practical experience that I have gained so far. I enjoy the lectures as they are usually very diverse but I equally love the seminars because this is my opportunity to interact with people who have different opinions and formulate the best communication strategies.

In my quest to self and professional development, I came across the Leeds University Business School. I saw different courses and modules and immediately landed into what I wanted to do which is the Master’s Degree that I am pursuing and it was only offered by Leeds. MA in CCMPR is exactly what I needed to learn, challenge my knowledge and thinking but also test the theories and practice in Communications. This course has been thought-provoking and enriching in terms of the content it offers and the practical experience that I have gained so far. I enjoy the lectures as they are usually very diverse but I equally love the seminars because this is my opportunity to interact with people who have different opinions and formulate the best communication strategies. One thing that really stands out for me is how our course instructors are passionate and have made it comfortable for us to learn since in Marketing there is no right or wrong answer. In addition, my school has an opportunity to travel for a study tour in Milano, Italy next year and I am really looking forward to join as it’s a rare opportunity to travel in Europe.

Life at Leeds comes in package with a lot to offer in social life. My personal experience living here has surpassed my expectations, there is so much love, diversity, social life and places to visit. I have enjoyed the town tour in several occasions. I also like the restaurants which offers a wide range of cuisines no matter which continent you are coming from. To top it up I like Kirkgate market because I get all the African spices I need for my meals.

My housing at the moment is a private accommodation and I live with my flatmates from Brazil, India and Nigeria. It is located in Hyde Park approximately 10-15 minutes walking distance from the University. I really enjoy the diversity in the house but also Hyde park is a very live area with lots of students, restaurants, places for having fun and I mostly enjoy the walking in the park. I wanted to make my year very rewarding but Leeds is already doing a big part of it.
