Hi everyone, my name is Hieu. I’m a postgraduate masters student from Vietnam. The programme I am studying is MSc Law and Finance. Before coming to Leeds, I completed my Bachelor of Law degree at Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and then had some years of working experience at a law firm in Vietnam.

I found the University of Leeds when researching for my studying abroad plan since it appeared among the few universities in the UK that provide a course with a combination of law and finance modules. The most fascinating aspect about this course is that it gives me the opportunity to advance not only my knowledge of international finance law but also the ability to apply business and financial perspectives in my future legal works.

Learning new things, meeting new friends, and exploring places in a new country are what I have been enjoying a lot. Indeed, being a student at the University of Leeds makes it much easier for me to have my desirable student life.

Overall, my first-time experience of studying a degree abroad at Leeds has been amazing. Learning new things, meeting new friends, and exploring places in a new country are what I have been enjoying a lot. Indeed, being a student at the University of Leeds makes it much easier for me to have my desirable student life. Most notably, I have access to valuable studying materials, alongside several opportunities related to employability, trainings on academic, professional, and other transferable skills in both law and finance sectors. Besides studying, I also join the Chess Society in their weekly playing and training sessions. I find it a great way to meet people who share the same interest, while improving myself at chess at the same time.

I love the vibe of the city of Leeds, which is neither too boring nor too bustling, just somewhere moderate in the middle. I can choose to spend time in either vibrant shopping centres or other tranquil spaces, both are available and very close to the university campus.

It is also worth mentioning an important factor that made me decide to go to Leeds to pursue my Masters’ degree, which is the city itself. I love the vibe of the city of Leeds, which is neither too boring nor too bustling, just somewhere moderate in the middle. I can choose to spend time in either vibrant shopping centres or other tranquil spaces, both are available and very close to the university campus. What I like the most would probably be the local bars, especially when there is a football match. Just imagine how enthusiastic people are! Moreover, the city’s location allows me to visit the beautiful landscapes and many famous national parks of Yorkshire and the surrounding area quite often. On the trips I have taken so far, I always enjoyed both the destination and the journey across the countryside, and I bet everyone will share the same experience.

I currently live in Blenheim Point, an accommodation of the university. It is very convenient for me to walk from there to the campus as well as the city centre in only about 5-10 minutes. I also appreciate the activities hosted by the Residence Life team to welcome and connect students living in the accommodation.

I am more than happy to share with you further about my experience at Leeds and answer any of your queries. Please feel free to get in touch with me via Unibuddy or email me at Hieu-link@leeds.ac.uk
