Hi, my name is Ghati! I’m an international student from Tanzania and currently in my final year at the University of Leeds.  I study International Business and Marketing, and I love how the course mixes global case studies with the creativity of marketing. Last year, I had the chance to do my placement year, and it turned out to be one of the most rewarding parts of my degree.

I grew up traveling to many different parts of the world, which shaped my love for international communities. Before Leeds, I studied at the International School of Tanganyika, where I completed the International Baccalaureate diploma, something I’m really proud of. The IB gave me great skills for university, and being part of an international school made it easy to connect with people here in Leeds.

I chose Leeds because of my course and the city’s welcoming international community. Coming from an international school, I knew I wanted to stay in a diverse environment and Leeds has been the perfect fit. I also love how easy it is to travel from here and explore other parts of the UK by train. On top of that, the university offers amazing support through services like the Careers Service and more from the Leeds University Union.

Outside of classes, I play for the University of Leeds basketball team. I joined in my first year, and it’s been one of the best parts of my time here. I also appreciate how societies give you the chance to get more involved. In my second year, I took on the role of secretary and social media manager, which was a great way to build new skills and give back to the team.

I’ve also experienced different types of accommodation starting in White Rose halls in my first year and now living in private housing with friends. Each year has helped me learn how to make the most of student life.

Now that I’m in my final year, I feel confident navigating both the city and university life. If you ever have questions about Leeds or settling in, feel free to reach out I’d be happy to help!
