Amelia Mai

Hi everyone! I’m Ngọc Ánh, or you can call me Amelia. I'm from Hanoi, Vietnam, and I’m currently studying MSc Consumer Analytics and Marketing Strategy at the University of Leeds.

Before coming here, I completed my bachelor’s in International Business Administration at the National Economics University. During my undergraduate studies, I became fascinated by how data drives marketing decisions, which led me to work in marketing and app monetization and ultimately inspired me to pursue my Master’s.

I first heard about the University of Leeds while researching programs in marketing analytics. The University of Leeds stood out because of its strong academic reputation as part of the Russell Group, its triple-accredited Business School, and the structure of my course, which combines marketing strategy with analytical tools. Positive student reviews and approachable staff further convinced me that this was the right place for my master’s.

As a result of these factors, choosing the University of Leeds has been one of the best decisions I’ve made.

I wanted a place that balanced academic excellence with a supportive, diverse community, and the University of Leeds offers exactly that. Induction sessions helped me settle in quickly, and lecturers and staff are always responsive whenever students need support. Group projects and seminars have allowed me to collaborate with classmates from around the world, improving teamwork and communication while exposing me to diverse perspectives on global marketing.

The best thing about my course, MSc Consumer Analytics and Marketing Strategy, is its practical approach. We don’t just learn theories. We apply data analytics to real marketing challenges. The course builds both technical and strategic skills, preparing us for roles in marketing analytics or consumer insight. Lecturers are approachable and encouraging, fostering critical thinking and creativity.

Alongside my academic experience, one of my favourite things about the University is the opportunities beyond the classroom. The Careers Centre offers support with CVs, applications, and career advice, and I’ve attended networking sessions and workshops that helped me better understand the UK job market. Leeds University Union (LUU), ranked 1st for clubs and societies in the UK, offers over 350 clubs and societies, providing great opportunities to meet people beyond my course. I also love the libraries and study spaces, especially the Edward Boyle Library and Maurice Keyworth Study Centre, which are perfect for focused study or group work. Support services like Skills@Library and the Language Zone have been especially helpful as an international student adapting to the UK academic style.

Alongside my academic life, I also enjoy exploring the city and discovering what Leeds has to offer. Outside of my studies, I enjoy traveling, cooking, and meeting people from different backgrounds. I currently live in student accommodation, just 10 minutes from the Business School and 20 minutes from the city centre. Living in this multicultural environment has made my experience even more special, allowing me to connect with students from all over the world. Leeds has so much to offer, from cosy cafés and vintage shops to cultural events, green spaces, and a great nightlife. I often spend weekends at Roundhay Park or in the city centre trying new foods with friends.

Looking back on my journey, my time at Leeds has been full of learning, connection, and growth. It’s not just about studying a master’s degree. It’s about discovering who I am, meeting inspiring people, and finding my own path.
