Hi everyone! My name is Adia and I’m a third year LLB student doing the three-year LLB program at the University of Leeds! Prior to my studies here, I completed the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) and Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) in my home country of Barbados.
Leeds’ law program and its stellar reviews stood out to me and it has yet to disappoint. The modules are structured well, and professors are comprehensive and friendly, making learning easier.
I was drawn to the University of Leeds because of its great academic reputation worldwide. The University of Leeds is a member of the exclusive Russell Group, which is a group of high ranked research universities in the UK. Additionally, Leeds’ law program and its stellar reviews stood out to me and it has yet to disappoint. The modules are structured well, and professors are comprehensive and friendly, making learning easier. Students are aided with skills and speed back sessions and support hours to ensure they get the assistance they need to make the most of the education we are offered.
The university’s large international student presence and diverse student body also played a large role in my decision to attend. Before your arrival, the International Office and us Link to Leeds Ambassadors are available to help with your application. The International Student Office is also very helpful and has plenty of schemes to support your international student life. There are also multiple societies at the Leeds University Union catered to different nationalities and ethnic groups so none ever feels alone and has the opportunity to meet people who are similar to them. I personally am a member of 4 different societies and this year I’ll be serving on the committee of Black Women’s Project as a Media and PR Officer!
Studying at the University of Leeds has opened me to a world of opportunities beyond my education, including talks with law firms and opportunities to network. Students are also exposed to other ways we can use our degrees beyond the solicitor and barrister route.
For my first year, I chose to stay on campus in student accommodation as I wanted to be near to the university. I really been enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone. The residence life team organises multiple events to give you the opportunity to bond with other members of your hall and venture out of your comfort zone. For my second and third year I am staying off campus in a private accommodation in the city centre.
Outside of classes and studying I love trying out restaurants, exploring the city and reading recreationally. My favourite spot on-campus is the Leeds University Union! The union has everything, from restaurants, to bars and supermarkets and is a great place to go if you want to study or socialise. Some of my favourite things about school include the proximity to the City Centre, the community and the societies. Off campus, my favourite place would have to be Trinity Mall as I can’t resist an opportunity to shop.
If you have any questions about law, adjusting to a new country or anything else, don’t hesitate to chat with me on UniBuddy or send me an email at [email protected]! I can’t wait to hear from you all!
