Hi there! My name is A-Jung, and I am a postgraduate masters student studying Accounting and Finance at Leeds University Business School. I moved to Leeds from South Korea three months ago, and I haven't looked back! I'm absolutely in love with both the city and the university, and I can't imagine attending any other university.

Deciding to return to school for further studies after eight years in the workforce was one of the most challenging decisions I've ever made. However, I kept my long-term career goals in mind, and fortunately, it turned out to be the right choice.

I completed my bachelor's degree in Economics back in 2016 in my home country, South Korea. Following that, I worked as an accountant for eight years. Deciding to return to school for further studies after eight years in the workforce was one of the most challenging decisions I've ever made. However, I kept my long-term career goals in mind, and fortunately, it turned out to be the right choice. I currently find myself incredibly satisfied and fulfilled, to the extent that I regret the time I spent hesitating. As I prepare for lectures and seminars, I can delve into subjects I never had the chance to explore during my previous studies and career. I'm particularly looking forward to combining the knowledge I gain from these academic pursuits with the practical experience I've gained from my time in the workforce. I believe that my postgraduate studies at the university will play a pivotal role in advancing my career, and I look forward to building rich experiences with the friends I make during this journey.

The reason I chose the University of Leeds for my postgraduate studies was its long-standing academic excellence, especially as a proud member of the Russell Group, a consortium of research-intensive universities. Furthermore, Leeds University Business School (LUBS) is among the few schools worldwide with triple accreditation from leading bodies, including AACSB, AMBA, and EQUIS, signifying its reputation and ensuring students receive a high-quality education from accredited faculty.

As an international student who had never lived abroad, I was nervous that I might struggle to adapt to the academic environment. However, it turned out to be quite the opposite! The faculty and staff are friendly and are always there to lend a helping hand to anyone who needs it. The university offers a wide range of workshops and sessions specifically designed for international students to help them get the hang of UK's academic culture and develop practical skills related to essays and dissertations. Participating in these sessions has significantly enhanced my comfort and confidence in settling into university life and making friends.

Joining these societies has played a significant role in helping me feel more at ease and fostering a sense of belonging within the university's community.

Moreover, the university offers a variety of amazing events and societies that everyone can join! Joining these societies has played a significant role in helping me feel more at ease and fostering a sense of belonging within the university's community. It provides opportunities to meet fellow students from various backgrounds and enhance international communication skills. Personally, I participated in events such as the global café, speed friending, campus/city tours, and the Trading and Investment Society, which I find particularly interesting. This has given me the opportunity to boost my confidence and immerse in the global environment.

Some of my favourite aspects of Leeds, the city itself, include the wide range of activities and exploration opportunities it offers! During my free time, I love to explore the nearby parks. There are many lovely and serene parks where we can visit anytime and enjoy spacious landscapes and fresh air. Not to mention the lovely shopping areas in Leeds. I've discovered numerous shopping malls and cultural spaces in the city centre. The city centre, which is within walking distance from the campus, is filled with brilliant shopping areas and exceptional restaurants.

The University of Leeds has undoubtedly exceeded my expectations. I understand that deciding to study abroad can be a challenging decision. If you are prospective student currently considering the University of Leeds, I would like to offer this advice: If your goals are clear, muster the courage to start your journey!
