Last month, I had the opportunity to talk to students from Ecuador about my experience as an International Communication MA Student and this experience made me remember myself exactly one year ago. It was one month before my trip to the UK to start my masters.

I remember I joined a live-chat with Latin-American ambassadors, there I asked them many questions regarding living in Leeds, accommodation, food, cost of living, and all the questions I had regarding the new adventure that I was about to start. In that chat, I met Valeria, one girl from Guadalajara (the city where I lived before going to the UK) and Gloria, another girl from Mexico. After this Link to Leeds chat, we become really good friends. It was nice to meet somebody from my country and with the same doubts I had. After that chat, we become really good friends and we even travelled a lot together.

Also, in that chat, I met the Link to Leeds ambassadors program (L2L). I found out that the ambassadors are a group of students from all over the world, with different academic backgrounds and levels of study. Since that day I wondered what it would like to be an ambassador myself. Around the last months of 2019, there was an open position to become part of the L2L team and I applied, long story short, here I am.

But what do we do as ambassadors? We are here to help you with your questions and to share our experiences as Leeds students. Just like you, we had the same doubts and queries before coming to the UK. We might not know all the answers but sure we will be able to point you in the right direction.

At this point, you must be getting ready to come to Leeds or to start your studies online next semester. Remember the University has lots of activities, many of them online, for you to feel welcome and at home. And us, as Link to Leeds ambassadors, have pre-departure chats and an amazing team to help you before your arrival.

Remember to check the University website to see the events coming and also, check out the Link to Leeds page, see the ambassadors profiles, you can search for a specific nationality or academic program and talk to us. Participate and join as many events as you can, I'm sure that just like me, you will learn a lot, take away the fears and doubts and find new friends. Remember, you’re not alone on this new journey.
