Hello, this is Fernanda. In this blog, I will write to you about my top five of favourite apps for me as a Uni of Leeds student. They include the Uni of Leeds app and some good options to save money and to avoid getting lost in the city. There are many more apps for you to make your life easy but these are the ones that I liked the most.

  1. UniLeeds

This is the official app from the University of Leeds and a must-have on your phone. Yes, this app is quite simple in design but useful to students. From this app and when you sign in as a student, will let you access your timetable (this means your class schedule and academic activities). You can also check your library records so you don’t forget which books you have at home and to return them in time. Most important, from here you can access your student email and Minerva, but what is Minerva? Well, this is the platform where you can access to the content of your courses, reading list, course handbook, etc.

Last, you can check the map of the school so you don’t get lost and of course, find places to eat around campus.

  1. TooGoodtoGo

This app is great for both, avoiding food waste and saving money. You can check the restaurants available and buy food at reduced prices. At first, I believed they were food leftovers but NO! Is just food that wasn’t sold during the day and is fresh and delicious and is ready for you to collect. There are many options to choose from, pizza, pasta even coffee and desserts. It gives you the closest options to you and something that is really cool is that some restaurants are inside the campus uni. You just need to check the options and times of collection, pay and go to get your food.

  1. UniDays

Another option for saving money is UniDays. This app offers student discounts all around the year (but during the first days of classes discounts are even better!). You need to verify your student status and after you will be ready. There are A LOT of brands and stores and some options are to buy online so you don’t need to leave your house (a great option during this time). Before making any purchase be sure to check this app to see if discounts or promo codes are available.

  1. First bus

I remember when I was new in the city. I was confused with the public transport, so many buses, numbers and colours. So, if you don’t want to get lost, this app will be really helpful. You just need to put your location and where you’re headed too. This will give you the best routes and estimate times and distance, it will even show you where to walk to get the bus. You can plan ahead your journey to avoid surprises.

  1. Bank app

No matter the bank, I believe this one is really important to have on your phone. Before downloading, make sure you have the right app (to avoid scams). Having your bank app on your phone will be really helpful when trying to do payments, transfers and to check your balance. Ask your bank how can you download and access.

If you want to download any of these, just go to your app store and find the one. In my case, coming from Mexico I had to change the location of my app store because some of these apps are only possible to download in the UK. Also, always be aware of which information are you sharing and in which sites are you logging in. Remember, technology is really helpful to make our life easier if used properly.

Disclaimer: None of these apps is being promoted by me of the University. This is just based on personal experience.
