Global Welcome Party

At the start of each semester, Leeds University Union (LUU) hosts the Global Welcome Party in one of their nightclubs on campus. It is a club night for international, exchange and study abroad students to get to know each other. The night is full of different styles of music, from K-Pop to Reggaeton, to the latest chart...there really is something for everyone. I attended it for the first time last year in Freshers week and now a week ago during Refreshers.

Freshers week is the week before the start of teaching in the first semester when everybody is arriving at university to settle into their new accommodations, meet their flatmates and get to know the city before any of the classes actually begin. It is the best time to make friends and go partying without thinking about any responsibilities of the upcoming coursework. Usually during Freshers week students join societies, go explore different food places in the city and attend as many events in the union as possible being excited about meeting new people.

All accommodations also have their own events such as barbecues, film nights and get to know each other parties. I met a lot of my friends at a barbecue party last year in Lupton (one of the University-owned accommodations off campus) and we decided to go to the Global Welcome Party together. It is a lot of fun if you want to experience the UK’s culture of going out but still stay within your comfort zone since the party is in LUU, so you don’t have to worry about how to get there and back. LUU actually has amazing services such as the night-bus, where you only pay £1 for a ride home no matter where you live.

If you want any more information about LUU events, just get in touch 🙂
