On the 30th of June, we decided to visit the Leeds Food and Drink Festival at Millennium Square which is in the city centre. We reached there around noon when the crowd was just coming in. As we entered the arena the smell of meat grilling at the stall nearby drew our attention. We decided to first browse through the stalls before we decide on what we should have. There were stalls from regions all around the world. Starting with a German stall that was selling sausages and burgers. As we walked from one end to the other we passed by Greek, Armenian, Thai, Sicilian, Caribbean and British food. We were spoilt for choice from Fish and Chips and Grilled Cheese to Gyros and Pad Thai.

We spent the first hour just taking in the aromas and sights. Despite seeing food from all over the world, the one that got us both excited was the Indian food stall. Since we are both from the Southern part of India the name ‘Masala Dosa’ on the menu made us jump in joy. Our homesick hearts could not resist the temptation. The dessert options were not limited either there were chimney cakes, bubble waffle, ice cream and brownie stores. There was even a stall that sold chocolate flavoured champagne.

After spending an hour just admiring the array of choices we finally made our picks and settled on the grass to enjoy the sun, the live music and of course the food. There were kids playing around, older people enjoying their beer and students like us just enjoying the atmosphere. There was a singer singing some of our favourite songs accompanied by a man on the guitar. The lively atmosphere and good weather is what we needed to make it a great Sunday afternoon. After finishing off our food we found out that there was another River Festival happening along the Docks. The good weather and company made us decide to head to the Leeds Docks next. After a short walk we reached the canal banks. This festival had canoeing, music and other fun activities like rock climbing. There were people sitting along the banks having a good time with friends and family. All in all, it was an enjoyable day of exploring Leeds. It felt good to be out on a Sunday just enjoying the pleasant weather and the sun which we rarely get.
