Before joining the University of Leeds, I completed my previous studies in HuiZhen Academy, where I discovered my passion for Cultural, Media, and Marketing studies. While researching universities that excel in these fields, I first heard about Leeds through social media. The university’s impressive reputation in my subject, coupled with its commitment to research, made it a top contender for me.
Leeds quickly stood out for its vibrant, inclusive community and dynamic teaching style, emphasizing not just academics but also personal and professional growth. This drew me here, and my experience has been nothing short of transformative. The lecturers are both knowledgeable and approachable, with a teaching style that encourages critical thinking and hands-on learning, making every lecture feel relevant and engaging. Additionally, my course includes discovery modules, which have allowed me to explore various areas within and outside my core field, adding more depth and flexibility to my studies.
One of my favourite aspects of Leeds is the diverse range of opportunities it offers beyond the classroom.
I’ve gained valuable experience as a Marketing and Student Experience Intern at the university, managing social media and events and enhancing my skills in digital marketing. Being involved in the Student Ambassador program has also allowed me to engage with new and prospective students, sharing my insights and helping others adjust to university life. These roles have significantly shaped my career aspirations, giving me a first-hand understanding of the industry and building skills that I know will benefit me in the future.
Leeds as a city has been just as exciting. I’ve loved exploring its blend of historical charm and modern vibrancy, with its range of cultural events, independent cafes, and music venues. My go-to spot has to be The Edge the school gym as well as outside of the student union, where I can relax and unwind after a busy week. The sense of community here is strong, and I’ve found it easy to feel at home, whether it's through joining student societies, volunteering, or simply exploring the city’s many parks and outdoor spaces.
Currently, I live in Altus House, which has offered me a fantastic living experience. The sense of community among my flatmates and the convenience of university-provided support make it an ideal place to focus on my studies while also building lasting friendships.
The course’s interdisciplinary nature, merging elements of media studies with practical marketing skills, keeps me constantly engaged and inspired. Studying Cultural, Media, and Marketing has been incredibly fulfilling.
The best part has been exploring real-world applications, from brand communication strategies to digital marketing campaigns, which has made the transition from theory to practice both seamless and enjoyable.
Outside of my studies, I’m deeply interested in music and sports, which helps me maintain a balanced lifestyle. Leeds has provided a supportive environment to pursue these interests, and I’m grateful for the friendships I’ve made along the way.
Looking back, choosing Leeds has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. It has offered me not only an outstanding education but also a wealth of experiences, friendships, and opportunities to grow. I’m excited to continue this journey, and I look forward to making even more memories here.
