Hi everyone, my name is Sandy!

I am currently in my second year studying BA Global Creative Industries. I am from Hong Kong but I've been studying in the UK for the last 2 years.

I chose to study in Leeds because in my opinion, it is one of the best cities in the UK. As a girl who adores city life, I fell in love with Leeds immediately upon my first visit to the city. Leeds is a beautiful and vibrant city that has something for everyone. The city centre has a wide range of shops, supermarkets, bars and nightclubs, perfect if you are a shopaholic or looking for amazing nightlife.

Leeds also has some of the world’s best restaurant chains that offer a massive variety of cuisines. Even if you prefer somewhere that is tranquil and less crowded, Leeds has several parks and natural spots such as Roundhay Park and Woodhouse Moor which are perfect for picnics. Life in Leeds simply never gets boring!

My experience at the University of Leeds has been remarkable. This is because the university has everything to provide students with a fruitful university life. First of all, the University of Leeds has an excellent academic atmosphere. Students here are hard-working and dedicated. The staff here are professional, friendly and supportive. In addition to student's academic achievements, the university also provides a wide range of support for their mental health and well-being.

The university also offers great study spots such as the Leeds University Union (LUU) and libraries with great facilities. Apart from the academic aspect, the university has over 300 clubs and societies to choose from. There's always something for you regardless of your interest to unleash your talent and broaden your social circle. The LUU also provides excellent venues for clubs and societies to host activities. The Edge, which is the university's sports centre, has a state-of-the-art fitness suite, pool, sauna, climbing wall, cycle circuit, sports halls and 130+ exercise classes.

My highlight of the year is definitely becoming a committee member of the Hong Kong Public Affairs and Social Services Society. It is a truly remarkable experience for me. From having the thought of participating in the election, communicating with other potential candidates, and preparing for the AGM to organizing events, I have learnt and grown a lot in the process. This has also significantly expanded my social circle and boosted my confidence. I am very grateful that I am elected to my desired position-the Publication Officer of the year which I can fully unleash my talent. I would definitely encourage freshers to get involved in different clubs and societies in their first year to broaden their horizons and enrich their university life.

The university provides students with numerous opportunities to support their personal development and increase their competitiveness, as well as providing a wide range of job opportunities to get students to be well-equipped for their careers. I received a digital internship recently in which I am responsible for creating digital content for the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Cultures. This is definitely a huge step in my career as I will be able to acquire a lot of practical skills and experience during my internship. Additionally, Discovery Modules allow you to broaden your academic experience and enhance your employability. I chose Spanish as my discovery module last year and French this year. Spanish was my favourite module last year as it developed my interest in learning a new language and boosted my confidence in speaking a foreign language.

Choosing to study at the University of Leeds is definitely one of the best decisions I've ever made. I had an amazing time living and studying in such a vibrant and diverse city.
