Hello, my name is Rahil!
I’m from Jakarta, Indonesia and I’m currently studying BSc Food Science and Nutrition at the University of Leeds.
I first heard about the University of Leeds when I was searching online for universities that offer undergraduate programmes in Food Science or Nutrition. I came across the University of Leeds and apart from being highly ranked, the university provided a programme which was the combination of the two courses that I was interested in. The University also provided an International Foundation Year Programme which was integrated with a bachelor’s degrees which served as a ‘bridge’ between secondary school and starting my undergraduate studies. These reasons alongside the strategic location of the city helped me make my decision to come to the University of Leeds.
Outside of studies, I’ve had a lot of fun participating in different clubs and societies ranging from sports, cultural all the way faith societies! This is a great way to meet new people, learn something new or even just to enjoy the atmosphere. I enjoy learning and trying new things, and I believe Leeds is a great place to do so.
My favourite thing about the university is the diversity of students and the open green spaces located all around campus which complement the older red brick budlings. The diversity on campus allows me to easily engage with people from all around the world. While the open green spaces provide a relaxing area for you to enjoy nature in between lectures.
During my first two years in Leeds, I stayed in university accommodation in the heart of campus. Personally, it was the location, facilities, security, and ease that made me choose to stay at a university accommodation for two years in a row. I would highly recommend staying in a student halls in your first year of university. It’ll allow you to easily meet fellow new students.
So far, I’ve had a very pleasant time and can’t wait to experience more of university in the coming years.
