Hello! I’m Praiseline Dinesh, currently pursuing my MSc in Data Science and Analytics at the University of Leeds. My journey into technology began with a degree in Computer Science back in India, but it was during a hands-on internship that I really discovered my passion for data science. The internship was a turning point for me; it showed me the vast potential of data to uncover insights and shape solutions to real-world problems. That experience sparked my determination to pursue a career in data science, so I started an extensive search for a university that would help me build a solid foundation in this field and push me to grow both technically and personally. The University of Leeds quickly rose to the top of my list.

Leeds stood out in my research for many reasons: its reputation for academic excellence, the diversity of its student body, and the strong international rankings in my field of study.

I was especially drawn to the meticulous structure of the data science modules offered here, which are designed to cover not only the technical fundamentals but also the latest industry developments and real-world applications. It was clear that this program would offer a well-rounded learning experience, combining theory, hands-on projects, and exposure to real-world challenges.

Another huge factor in my decision was University of Leeds’ commitment to inclusivity. Knowing that I would be joining a vibrant community of international students made me feel like I was coming to a place that values diversity and global perspectives. The multicultural environment here creates a unique space for learning, where students from different backgrounds come together and bring new ideas to the table. It’s exciting to be part of a campus that is not just academically strong but also socially and culturally enriching.

Since arriving, I’ve found Leeds to be incredibly welcoming. From the moment I stepped onto campus, I was met with a friendly and supportive community that made the transition much easier. That initial sense of belonging has only deepened over time as I’ve settled into life here. The university campus itself is thoughtfully designed, with spaces that encourage both study and relaxation, making it easy to stay focused while also having room to unwind. My favorite spot has to be the library—it’s such a peaceful haven where I can really dive into my studies and access countless resources that make every project more manageable.

The best part of my course, though, has to be the professors. They bring not only expertise but also a real passion for their subjects. Their approach to teaching has made even the more complex topics in data science feel accessible and engaging.

Living in Leeds has been an incredible experience in itself. The city offers an amazing mix of history and modernity, with Victorian architecture, bustling markets, and cozy cafes and lively student areas. My favourite thing about Leeds has to be its multiculturalism. With so many cuisines available, I’ve had the chance to try dishes from all over the world, which has been a delight as a food lover. The city’s weather, though famously unpredictable, adds to its charm. There’s something comforting about the crisp mornings and mild afternoons, and I’ve even come to enjoy the rain (with the right jacket, of course!).

When it comes to accommodation, I opted for a shared private flat, and it’s been a great choice. Living with other students has made adjusting to life in a new country much easier. We’ve created a supportive community within our flat, often sharing meals and exploring the city together.

Reflecting on my time here so far, I feel grateful for the growth and learning that Leeds has given me, both academically and personally. I’ve made many friends from different parts of the world, strengthened my skills.
