Before joining the University of Leeds, I studied high school in Abu Dhabi, where I first learned about Leeds at a college fair. Many of my friends were also applying due to its high ranking, welcoming environment, and popularity among students from the Middle East. I ultimately chose Leeds for its highly ranked Digital Media program, known for its innovation and adaptability. The large Arab community was also a comforting factor, making Leeds feel like a home away from home.

The School of Media and Communication has been incredibly impactful, especially with facilities like the Helix Space. This digital innovation hub gives students access to advanced technologies, creative studios, and resources to support hands-on learning.

The Digital Media programme offers specialized modules in areas like programming, motion graphics, and editing; allowing me to develop skills essential to my career goals.

The Leeds University Union (LUU) provides an unparalleled experience with over 300 societies, catering to diverse interests, from sports and arts to international cultures. The LUU also hosts the Leeds Student Radio (LSR), currently ranked the UK’s top student radio station, which adds an incredible platform for student voices. Events like global cafes and fairs help students connect and make friends, and the union’s activities foster a strong sense of belonging.

Living in Leeds has been an ideal experience for me. The city’s compact size means everything—from cafes to libraries—is just a short walk from campus, making it easy to navigate and access essentials. Exploring the city’s diverse dining scene and enjoying the vibrant nightlife with friends adds to Leeds’ appeal as a student city.

Currently, I live in a privately rented student accommodation near the city centre, which is practical and convenient. However, I strongly recommend on-campus accommodation for first-year students to make new connections and adjust to university life. Similarly, with some on campus accommodations, you can choose to have a catered option which was ideal for me as a first year who didnt know how to cook yet.

Overall, my time at Leeds has exceeded my expectations, providing the tools I need to pursue my professional goals while offering a community that has supported my personal growth.
