You’ll get the opportunity to hear the experiences of current international students, recent alumni and direct any questions you have at staff from the International Office & University of Leeds Careers Centre. Jan Spalek is the Employer Engagement Manager at the University of Leeds acting as the lead in relation to employability for international students and graduates. He is busy researching and initiating specific employer relationships in targeted countries and regions to enhance support and add value to student experience.
Jan was previously the International Experience Manager at the University of Essex working in a busy study abroad office with strategic and operational responsibility for the management, development and delivery of the student mobility programme. He also regularly works as the academic and regional specialist assessor for the Chevening scholarship.
Catalina is in her third year of BSc International Business and Marketing and currently undertaking her placement year at Pfizer. During her placement, she has applied many theories and concepts learned during her degree, such as those presented in the Fundamentals of Marketing, Consumer Behaviour, and Cross-Cultural Management modules.
Youssef, studying his final year in MEng Mechanical Engineering has experience in internships and work placements at Leeds. In 2018 He completed an internship in Germany, in 2019-20 completed a year-long placement at Xerogrid, in solar energy, and now secured a graduate placement at a multinational manufacturing firm for September 2021.
Minori graduated in 2020 with a degree in BA (Hons) Film, Photography and Media. Career experience began throughout her degree in 2017 with a summer internship in Tokyo, which ultimately prepared her for her industry year in Manchester as a Social Media Executive at JD Sports. Her experiences in and out of the UK has provided valuable insight into the creative industry but she also continued to develop relationships with brands throughout her degree, landing a job at ASOS and even working for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics & Paralympics whenever she was back in Japan. Minori is currently working remotely in Manchester for MyProtein at The Hut Group as an Asia Brand Marketing Executive, in an all Asian team.
Yash completed his MSc Advanced Computer Science in 2020 currently working as an Associate Software Consultant virtually with Saggezza (based in Sunderland). Before completing his postgrad, he had a year experience as a full stack developer and a year experience of entrepreneurship. While doing the latter, he realized he lacked the required knowledge and decided to pursue his masters at Leeds. Pursuing his master’s in the University of Leeds, helped him improve his knowledge and also widened his horizons as a curious person who can understand and learn new skills easily.
