Luis Francisco Garcia Millan

Hi, I’m Luis and I’m from Mexico. I’m an Information and Communication Technologies Engineer from the Mexican Institute of Technology, I am currently studying a masters in Advanced Computer Science and Data Analytics here at the University of Leeds. The first time I heard about the University of Leeds was when Doug Pearce, (who is Head of International Student Recruitment), gave a speech at my home city, the way he gave the speech and how he described the experience at Leeds was enough for me to start investigating the study programmes and modules the University could offer me.

Choosing Leeds University was an easy decision for me, it had exactly what I was looking for in its study programme and the campus looks great in pictures (And even better in person), the best thing about my course is the great facilities, lecture rooms and resources the university gives me to make my learning experience the best.  I’ve been living in Leeds for the past 2 months now, and I can say that the people here are very friendly and it is very easy to make friends around the university, there are many different activities and societies which anyone can join.

Studying in Leeds has given me the opportunity to meet people from all over the world and from my home country too, I’ve met people from countries that I’ve never even heard of, which is one of the coolest things because I get to learn about different cultures and traditions.

In my spare time I like to go cycling, city exploring and taking lots of pictures of the city and its landmarks, living in Leeds has been a wonderful experience with everything that it has to offer, from pubs, nightclubs, dance halls, theatres, shopping malls and parks, one of my favourite places is the city centre, which offers you many things to do, like shopping, watching a movie or eating any type of food, you can find Mexican, Japanese, Italian, Chinese, American or even Thai food in the city centre. I’m currently living in a private rented house in Meanwood with three other Mexican students who love Leeds as much as I do, our house is not too close to the university but it is close to many shopping stores and pubs, which is very convenient.

Looking forward to hearing from you!
